Meet the Cabinet

Ontario Youth Parliament is a youth led organization that provides different experiences for everyone. Whether you join for the heated debate, the spirited reflection during vespers, or the dances, where true friendships are formed, everyone can take something out of OYP.

In order to continue this tradition, Ontario Youth Parliament’s Cabinet works hard for months leading up to the parliament session! Cabinet is broken up into four sections, which all have different roles in the planning. If you are interested in joining, applications become available in the Spring for the following year’s session!

Executive

The Executive team are the leaders for each committee, working hard to put together Cabinet, and prepare for the preceding parliament through their main roles. Running the show are the Premier, who leads the Government, and the Leader of the Opposition, who leads the Opposition side of the House in parliament.

Debate.

Erica Geen

Leader of the Opposition

Favourite thing about OYP:

For me, OYP was an opportunity to find my voice. I have always cherished a good debate in the house, and so my favourite part of OYP proper is seeing delegates both old and new discover a passion or conquer their fear by speaking in the house.

Favourite thing about OYP:

Vespers have always been one of my favourite parts of OYP. I always come out of the weekend feeling moved and like I’ve learned something new about myself. As someone who’s an introvert, debate can be intimidating sometimes, and I always appreciate the quiet time that is given during vespers to reflect. I think its also special talking about something so personal with friends at OYP and is a large part of why OYP friendships are so strong.

Public Relations

Public Relations handles the promotions of OYP to the public, as well as the communications during the session.

Favourite thing about OYP:

It is a uniquely welcoming environment. I am given the rare opportunity to meet people of all different denominations, political stances, ages and walks of life, and through this I have met some of my best friends who have opened my eyes to completely new perspectives. Everyone is given an equal voice to express, debate, and learn together without fear of shame or embarrassment, and that experience is something severely lacking from daily life.
